    • Inkscape v 1.4.2 - just installed
    • Windows 11 pro

    I tried a B&W, color, tried the original image.Β

This is the image that I reduced in color through AI, and thought it would be ready to go, but the trace always was on the outside of the line. I wanted to achieve center line tracing.

I have tried for days to achieve this, but simply cannot. Can you please help me.

Not sure if you can get a color center line tracing with Inkscape with the quality you want.
Inkscape centerline tracing will work if you tell the AI to do a 100% black/white trace with same resolution.Β

    Is this ok?Β

First image is your original. Second is the AI trace. Third is is Inkscape's centerline trace of the second.Β

Excellent. Thanks for your explanation and demonstrating how you got there. Thanks so much. I really tried so many variations. I started hand drawing lines on top of the image but it was time consuming and inaccurate. Thanks again!!!

You were on the right track. Just needed more AI assistance. If you increase the FilterΒ  interations and/or error threshold, you will end up with a trace with less nodes but not as accurate. Since the result was not many nodes, decided to to go all the way with it.Β

There is other ways also. I could have done a 16 color multicolor trace. Go through the resulting stack and find a good outline. Convert that to a bitmap, then do a a centerline trace. Just too much work. Let AI do most of the work for you then let Inkscape do its magic.Β
