Let's say I want do draw two rectangles, aligned at the top, the second, say, 20 mm to the right of the first. I can draw the first with the rectangle tool, and then the second, somewhere to the right, and align them. Can someone tell me how to do that in such a way that the gap between them is 20mm (apart from computing the top-left corner of the second and watching its position on the bars while dragging ...)
Another method is to draw the second rectangle right at the edge of the first (using snapping), then suffixย "+20" to the X-position value* in the controls bar at the top of the screen.

There are H and V spacing tools in the Align and Distribute dialog.
After spacingย two (by any method), additional objects can be drag-spaced to match.
